Lockdown Lowdown: Richmond’s Ivan Magalhães

Ivan Magalhães talks about how he is handling the downtime ahead of the postponed start of the USL League One season.

We continue our look at how soccer players across America are dealing with the postponement of their seasons as we check in with Ivan Magalhães, a defender for Richmond Kickers.

Ivan is staying physically ready with the workout program provided by the club and he’s staying ready mentally by puzzling with his girlfriend and doing Sudoku on his phone, something he also does during trips for away matches.

He’s recently watched or is currently watching The Platform, Dirty Money, and Narcos: Mexico. Despite watching the series before, he’s re-watching the series Parks and Recreation with his girlfriend, who is watching it for the first time. He has The Edge of Democracy on his watchlist and he plans to watch the new season of Ozark when it’s available.

While he’s in Richmond during the COVID-19 pandemic, he has been able to keep in touch with his family back in Brazil, where his puppy Donna is as well.

Magalhães mentioned that the pre-season ahead of the social distancing across the country was useful for getting to know new teammates before the USL League One season officially kicks off. Make sure to follow Ivan on Instagram and Twitter.

We will continue to bring you peeks into what the players are doing to occupy the downtime. To those reading this, we appreciate you spending some of this difficult time reading our articles, listening to our podcast, and supporting the beautiful game across this country with the Beautiful Game Network.
