Beckford wants to make sure his name is remembered at RGVFC

Last season, when RGVFC announced that they had acquired Deshane Beckford on loan, multiple players on the team offered some high praise for him and told me to watch out. In the nine matches he played in down the stretch, you could see why people were excited about his arrival. He scored one goal and provided three key passes in just over 200 minutes. Now, Beckford is back in the Valley for a full season with the Toros. “First, I have to say I’m grateful for the opportunity I was given to come back for a full season,” he told BGN. “I’m coming back to help the team in whichever way I possibly can and just to have a very good season with some goals.”

While the club is bringing back some quality players, they are also losing some like their star winger Chuy Enriquez, which will put more expectations on Deshane. But, he’s comfortable with the bigger role. “Yes, definitely. I’m ready to play my part and show what I really can do,” Beckford said. His pace and skill dribbling the ball are both obvious to anyone that watches him play and Deshane said he has more to his game, but he wants people to wait to see that.

However, he’s not keeping his objectives for this season a secret. He declares, “This season, I’m focusing on double-digit goal scoring and to make the entire Valley know the name.”

Deshane is still only 21 years old, but his talent and potential have been evident for years. Back in 2015, he participated in a trial with the Premier League’s West Ham United. “It was a great experience for me I’ve learned so much,” he recalled. “But, the main thing was the high tempo that the game requires, like to play quick and be technically sound.”

His unique skillset has also landed him some opportunities on the international stage. He scored three goals in three matches for the Jamaican U-23 side in last year’s Pan-American Games. Discussing the possibility of a first-team cap for the Reggae Boyz, Deshane said, “I’ve been in camps and played a few practice games with the team. But, of course, it would be a great feeling to represent the land of birth.”

No matter which team he is playing for, you can expect some fast-paced, skillful play out wide from Deshane Beckford. Toros fans should be excited about watching him blaze up and down the wing at H-E-B Park.
