A call to speak up

The Fair Weather Podcast is back this week with a message and a call to speak up. Marisa, Chris, and Alan are all back again. The team starts with some of the new player signings and man there are a lot! The best part is three of the four are from the San Diego area. We talk about Miguel Berry’s debut a little, then introduce the other three. The players were announced just hours before the podcast.
After the player intros, the team digs into the recent news out of Salt Lake City regarding the owner of Real Salt Lake, Utah Royals, and Real Monarchs. The owner said some pretty dumb stuff including how disrespected he felt by the player’s strikes going on in professional sports.
Next Alan took a moment to address what has been going down and his thoughts on the subject. He encourages everyone to put aside the defensiveness and engage with each other. He encourages people to actually look into the issues, do research about what is happening in our communities, and to speak up. Marisa and Chris weigh in as well and offer their thoughts on the matter.
We realize that this conversation might make some people uncomfortable, but we encourage everyone to be okay with being uncomfortable. It is the only way we are going to learn from each other and find a way to end racial and social injustice. Talking and speaking up will be the only way to end systemic racism. This is our call to everyone to speak up.
The team does get into a little bit of soccer. We make some predictions and talk about likely playoff scenarios. This one might be a little long, but we think it is worth it to hopefully start something in our community.
