Lockdown Lowdown: RGVFC’s Roberts, Castellanos and Coronado

In our first edition of a new series, we take a look at how RGVFC’s Robert Castellanos and Robert Coronado are passing the time during the soccer season shutdown.

As the 2020 USL Championship and USL League One seasons continue to be on ice with the COVID-19 pandemic, coaches, players, staff, and everyone else for the clubs are in a holding pattern. The moratorium on training has been extended to April 5th while matches won’t begin anytime before May 10th.

While we wait for the action on the pitch to resume, we will provide you a look at how some of the individuals in the leagues are handling the downtime in BGN’s Lockdown Lowdown with their go-to TV shows, board games, books, music, and more. First up, the RGVFC defensive duo of Robert Castellanos and Robert Coronado.

Castellanos has been with the club since 2018 and Coronado returned after his rookie season in 2019. Both players are fan favorites on the Toros’ backline and represent the club well with their hard work and willingness to engage with the community.

While they’re unable to get out in the community or showcase their soccer skills, the Roberts have been staying busy with the club-provided exercises, primarily bodyweight work, with a soundtrack that includes the newest Bad Bunny album, YHLQMDLG. Castellanos also lists rappers like A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Roddy Ricch, and Lil Uzi on his current playlist while Coronado still enjoys older tracks from Drake and Chris Brown.

Castellanos just finished reading The Four Agreements and is currently working on Rich Dad, Poor Dad and Steven Gerrard’s book, My Story. Coronado has watched Zombieland: Double Tap and Spenser Confidential during the first couple of weeks of the postponed season.

Both Roberts enjoy playing the board game, Partners. They are a solid tandem against their usual opponents, Isidro “Chelo” Martinez and Kyle Adams. They’ve been getting by with their grocery shopping and cooking their own meals, which both admit Castellanos is the best at. While you aren’t able to see them on the pitch at H-E-B Park, you can catch Robert Castellanos and Robert Coronado on Tiktok for some laughs.

They will each be getting back on the soccer field this Wednesday, but it will be only a virtual one. Caste and Coronado will each be playing in RGVFC and Down in the Valley Podcast‘s FIFA 20 tournament on the Xbox side of the festivities.
