A Light Preview: Match #26 vs. Real Monarchs SLC

Las Vegas Lights FC will look to get their second win of the year over Monarchs SLC.

After a road draw vs. Tulsa and a weekend off, Las Vegas Lights FC will play another away, midweek fixture tonight. They are set to take on Real Monarchs SLC at Zions Bank Stadium. We preview the USL Championship action.

Looking at the Lights (8-10-7)

With a busy schedule this month, Lights FC will need to pick up points with some regularity. Real Monarchs SLC only have one clean sheet in their last five matches and the Lights will need to be aggressive on the road.

It will be interesting to see how Eric Wynalda lines up his squad tonight. LAFC loanee Fito Zelaya was called up to El Salvador’s national team for this international break. Jose Villarreal is out with a lower-body injury while Mobi Fehr and Vinnie Vermeer are listed as questionable. Dejan Jakovic was listed on the LAFC injury report with an adductor injury over the weekend. With Zelaya and Villarreal out, we will definitely see Tabort Etaka Preston and Irvin Parra in the attack, but could Sammy Ochoa make a rare start as the target forward?

Previous meeting vs. Monarchs SLC: W, 1-0

Who you should know: Real Monarchs SLC (10-8-6)

Douglas Martinez: He signed with first-team Real Salt Lake over the weekend, so he may be unavailable, but if he’s in action with the Monarchs, he’s the player to watch. He has 11 goals and six assists on the season.

Maikel Chang: The Cuban midfielder is dangerous for Monarchs SLC, whether he’s scoring himself or setting up a teammate. He has nine goals, four assists, and a team-high 40 chances created this year.

Jack Blake: Appearing in 23 matches, he controls the tempo in the midfield. He has 904 passes with 86% accuracy, 63.8 passes per match. The 24-year-old Scottish midfielder has six goals as well.
