The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are once again making good the use of their loan agreement with the Columbus Crew SC.
The Riverhounds announced on Friday that Connor Maloney would join the team for their match against Louisville City FC. According to the club, Ritchie Duffie has suffered a head injury, adding him to the injured defender list alongside Ryan Adeleye and Rich Balchan.
Maloney’s loan is on a considered match-by-match basis.
Maloney, 22, is from Harrisburg, and was drafted by the Crew with the No. 49 overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He signed his contract with the Crew on Feb. 20.
This MLS season, Maloney has made one appearance for the Crew, totaling 45 minutes of action. He did not record any shots, assists or goals.
At Pennsylvania State University, where he attended from 2013-16, Maloney recorded 73 appearances, in which he started all matches. He scored 26 goals and finished with 17 assists. According to the Riverhounds, he will wear No. 37 on the pitch.
“Connor is someone I know well from playing against him at Penn State, and he’s always been one of my favorite players,” said head coach Dave Brandt. “Quick, aggressive, skilled and a strong fighting spirit, I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him on the field.”
The Riverhounds will face Louisville City FC on Saturday, with a kickoff time at 7 p.m. However, before the match, the Riverhounds will host different events at Highmark Stadium. To find out more about the events and activities taking place, go to the Riverhounds official website.
