League One Fun – Episode 70: Preparing For Play with Tormenta & Omaha

Preparing for Play

As USL League One continues preparing for play the 20 game 2020 season, a lot is going on in the background. While some crave the ability to head outside and attend matches, others have questioned the health risks involved. Continuing on last week’s discussion and the prior week with USL League One VP Steven Short, Ira gets on the phone with Darin Van Tassell, co-owner of South Georgia Tormenta and Matt Homonoff, COO of Union Omaha.

Ira is @irajersey, Jason is @homesweetsoccer and the show is @league1fun.

Who’ll Play First

Van Tassell provides information on in stadium, travel and players preparing for play as full team, full contact training begins once again. Safety protocols are discussed for in stadium preparations and travel difficulties are reviewed. Ira asks about Tormenta FC’s efforts to raise awareness for the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the clubs fundraising for their local NAACP chapter.

No Way To Compare

When Ira asks about what to expect of the stadium experience in Werner Park, Homonoff reminds him that there’s nothing to compare it to. Homonoff notes many of the seating arrangements being made in stadium, and the choices season ticket holders have to attend or advance their tickets to 2021. The two discuss how the club has remained engaged with the fans and the success of their parking lot soccer tennis tournament – which coach Mim’s won (Ira thinks his team should have been ineligible, Matt kind of agrees). The two finish with Omaha’s commitment to giving their players a voice and the sounding board the team has been for the #BlackLivesMatter efforts.
