Lights Match Preview #32: LV at SA

The Lights hit the road to take on San Antonio FC tonight.

After a closely contested 1-0 loss to OKC Energy FC, Las Vegas Lights FC travel to Texas to take on San Antonio FC. The #2 seed out West last year, SAFC is battling for their playoff lives and this is a must-win game.

Last Time They Met

San Antonio FC took a 3-1 victory at Cashman Field. SAFC got goals from Ever Guzman, Jose Escalante, and Rafa Castillo. The lone Lights tally came from former San Antonio man Carlos Alvarez. That marked the first USL loss for Lights FC. It also was marred by some incidents with fans throwing stuff towards the referees and a lengthy stoppage.

Opposing Players to Watch

Lance Laing: On loan from FC Cincinnati, Laing has been a revelation for SAFC. In 14 matches, a lot of them crucial, he has four goals and four assists. He’s the danger man for the club right now.

Matt Cardone: San Antonio is one of the lucky teams in the USL that has two starting caliber goalkeepers. Last year, Diego Restrepo stepped in for an injured Matt Cardone and won USL Goalkeeper of the Year. Now, with Restrepo banged up, Cardone has stepped in for the playoff push. Against an aggressive Lights’ attack, he will need to be in top form. Speaking of top form, he was voted best beard in the USL for a second straight season.

Ever “Cheno” Guzman: While Laing has been great, Guzman still leads the club in goals with eight. He’s added three assists as well.
