Lights FC end their home swing with a big win over Fresno

Last night, Las Vegas Lights FC bounced back with a big win over Fresno FC.

After their first two-match losing streak at home this season, Las Vegas Lights got back on track last night as they defeated Fresno FC. Cristian Martinez, Tabort Etaka Preston, and Irvin Parra scored the goals for Las Vegas.

Three Brightest Lights

💡💡💡 Irvin Parra: The new Lights FC all-time leading scorer, Parra assisted on the opening goal and buried a penalty kick for the third. His effort to set up the first goal was big time.

💡💡 Tabort Etaka Preston: For most of the match, Las Vegas’ attack relied primarily on Preston’s solo runs from his own half down the left flank. He did well to rise up and head home the second score of the match.

💡 Cristian Martinez: The loanee converted the first goal after Parra put the ball on a platter for him. It wasn’t a difficult goal, but it would’ve been a devastating miss.

Quick Kicks

âš½ Ferrety Sousa has been a massive boost to this club lately. He is skilled on the ball, has a high work rate, and brings another player into the lineup with legitimate pace. His cross to Tabort Etaka for the second goal was lovely. Sousa also had some chances to set up teammates early on, but multiple times there were two players in similar spots in the box and left him with no viable route to pass into.

âš½ Mobi Fehr playing on the backline is still not a natural fit, but it works better when he’s paired with Sousa on the right side. They are able to combine for the defensive assignments and Fehr can send the ball long to Sousa on the wing.

âš½ Las Vegas scoring three goals vs. Fresno is a notable accomplishment. How notable? They are only the second team to do so this season against one of the most staunch defensive units in the league.

âš½ For anyone watching at home, the smoke set off by the supporters looked strange on ESPN+. Well, it also looked odd in person as there was very little wind last night and it eerily hovered over the pitch as Cashman Field.

âš½ The all-you-can-eat tamales were definitely worth their cost and personally, I think it should be available every match.

What’s Next?

📅 Following a busy couple of weeks for Lights FC, the club will have no midweek match and are set to take on Austin Bold FC next Sunday. The inaugural side currently occupies the 7th position in the Western Conference and topped Sacramento Republic FC last Wednesday.
