Hoffman homebound in 2019, signs to Birmingham Legion FC

The proven USL goalscorer will join the expansion side in 2019.

Real Monarchs SLC announced Monday, July 30 that their captain, Chandler Hoffman, will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Starting in 2019 Hoffman will play for expansion team Birmingham Legion FC. A native of Birmingham himself, Hoffman is the first player signed to Legion FC’s roster. According to the club’s press release, Monarchs General Manager Dan Egner voiced happiness for Hoffman’s success saying, “For Chandler to become the marquee player for his hometown professional club is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Hoffman has been a key player for the Monarchs this year, scoring seven goals in 20 appearances. He’s currently tied with Sebastian Velasquez for most goals scored this season. In addition to his goals, Hoffman has two assists to his name. Last year, he helped lead the Monarchs to a USL Regular-Season Championship Shield, scoring 17 goals with seven assists throughout regular season and playoffs. Thankfully, Birmingham Legion FC agreed to have Hoffman stay with the Monarchs through the 2018 USL Cup and fans will be happy to note he continues to give 100 percent for the team, saying, “my entire focus is finishing what we have started this season.”

Hoffman has made 53 total appearances for the Monarchs and played 1,370 minutes. Before that, he was a Philadelphia Union first round pick in the 2012 MLS Superdraft. Outside of his stint with the Union, he’s featured for Harrisburg City Islanders, LA Galaxy, LA Galaxy II, Houston Dynamo, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, and Louisville City FC. Make sure to check out Real Monarchs SLC’s home match against Reno 1868 FC on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. MT to see Chandler Hoffman in action. Monarchs fans be sure to enjoy him for the rest of the season while he’s in Utah.
