All Toros, No Bull: RGVFC look to upset Reno on the road tonight
In a mid-week matchup, RGVFC will take on Reno 1868 FC in northern Nevada tonight.
After a weekend off, the RGVFC Toros will return to action tonight to face the club the second-place side in the Western Conference, Reno 1868 FC.
RGVFC Toros (5-7-4)
Having a long layoff after their loss to Austin Bold FC, RGVFC will have had some time to think things over and work some of the kinks out. Personally, I think it’s better to get back out there soon after a tough defeat, but that’s not how the schedule worked out this time.
That shutout loss to Austin was the first clean sheet kept against the Toros since early April. They will look to bounce back with Carlos Small leading the attack. As I’ve mentioned previously, the club needs more contributions from wingers Camilo Monroy and Chuy Enriquez. They are both dangerous, skilled players, but if they can’t score goals or register assists, the offense may falter without Michael Salazar and Maalique Foster.
Robert Coronado will look to move past a tough moment against Bold FC and Nico Corti will look to build on a solid performance in goal, if he gets the start over potential Houston Dynamo loanees.
Reno 1868 FC (8-4-5)
Currently occupying the second position on the Western Conference table, 1868 FC are scoring a lot of goals in 2019. Their 35 goals are good for third-best across the USL Championship. Jamaican Brian Brown has been a star for the side, scoring eight goals and adding five assists. Right behind him, Corey Hertzog has seven goals and four assists.
For their 2-0 win over Sacramento Republic FC, two players were honored by the league. Midfielder Seth Casiple was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week and goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski received an honorable mention.
Last season, RGVFC came up with zero points from their two matches vs. Reno. They had a scoreless draw in May before a 4-0 September loss in Nevada.
This Week’s Quote-A- Bull: Head Coach Gerson Echeverry
On what his club needs to do to get their second away win of the year:
“Defend better, move the ball faster, and get shots on target.”
