A Light Preview: Match #32 vs. San Antonio FC

Las Vegas Lights FC return home for a crucial late-season fixture vs. San Antonio.

Tonight, Las Vegas Lights FC will continue their quest to sneak into the playoffs as they host San Antonio FC. We preview the action coming your way from Cashman Field in Downtown Las Vegas.

Looking at the Lights

The only important thing here is that they are still in contention for a playoff position. Also, they’re still needing some help to make it in. The Lights are currently 13th (the top ten clubs make the playoffs in 2019) and they sit with 38 points. The final playoff spot belongs to their opponent tonight, San Antonio FC, with 41 points. But, the 11th and 12th positions are occupied by New Mexico United and Portland Timbers 2, both of which have a game in hand on Las Vegas. To get in, the Lights will need to win both matches and hope for some struggles for the aforementioned teams.

Last week, and ahead of prior away matches, I mentioned that Irvin Parra needed to step up on the road and he did just that, scoring a brace in the 3-1 win last week. He and the other goalscorer, Tabort Etaka Preston, will need to provide the punch tonight for Lights FC. It should be a good atmosphere tonight after a pair of matches away from Cashman Field.

Who you should know: San Antonio FC

Frank Lopez: He joined SAFC on loan from Los Dos this summer and has helped energize the attack. On the year, he has 13 goals and two assists.

Matt Cardone: The starting goalkeeper for 30 matches this season, Cardone is third in the USL Championship in saves and 11th in clean sheets.

Christian Parano: Leading the league in dribbles completed, the Argentine midfielder is a game-changer for San Antonio. This week, he was listed as #2 on the USL’s best 20 players under 20 years old list. Parano has seven goals and five assists.
