A Light Preview: Match #21 vs. Fresno FC

Las Vegas Lights FC travel to Fresno FC tonight, where they won their first-ever match.

After a home win over RGVFC, Las Vegas Lights FC head to California to take on Fresno FC. Last season, the then-expansion sides met to open the season and the Lights came away with their first-ever win in franchise history.

Looking at the Lights (7-8-5)

Eric Wynalda’s squad will travel to Fresno with a big home win and some reinforcements. Jesus Gonzalez and Javan Torre have returned from suspension, Vinnie Vermeer is back on loan from Nashville SC, and the club has added goalkeeper Adam Hobbs to backup Thomas Olsen. On the opposite end of that, Lucas Scaglia has retired from professional soccer and Mobi Fehr is still out with an injury.

With no Fehr in the midfield, the club has not controlled a lot of possession. Playing on the road, the Lights will likely continue their physical style of soccer and try to take advantage of chances on the counter-attack with Jose Villarreal, Irvin Parra, and Preston Tabort Etaka.

Who you should know: Fresno FC (10-3-7)

Qudus Lawal: After trialing with the club, he officially joined the Zorros in January and has not disappointed. He co-leads the club in goals with seven and has a team-high 36 shots.

Jemal Johnson: Tied with Lawal for the goal lead, Johnson has three assists to go with his seven goals.

Juan Pablo Caffa: One of the best creators in the league over the last few years, Caffa leads Fresno in assists. He’s connected on 80.6% of his 758 passes.
