A Light Preview: Lights’ season finale vs. OC

An incredible unusual season will come to an end for Las Vegas Lights FC tonight. They host Orange County SC at Cashman Field with up to 250 fans in attendance for the first time this season.

Las Vegas Lights FC (2-8-5)

Tonight will mark, by all expectations, the end of the Frank Yallop Era at Lights FC. The experienced, former MLS manager took over once Eric Wynalda was dismissed and stated that he wouldn’t be interested in the full-time job. Based on the circumstances, he’s done an admirable job.

But, we will do a season review another day because there is still a match to be played. The Lights will host Orange County SC, who was in contention for a playoff berth before losing five of their last six matches (only beating LV in that stretch).

Las Vegas will be without Yamikani Chester, who scored the equalizing goal vs. Reno 1868 FC, as he’s been called up to Malawi national team. He’s been a bright spot this season, currently leading the club with four goals.

It will be interesting to see who is available in the attack because Chester is gone plus Rashawn Dally and Quincy Amarikwa missed the Reno match due to injury. Blake Frischknecht will likely get the start up top as he tries to break out of his goalless streak. Can Las Vegas get its first win since August 25th and close out the season on a high note? They have lost their two previous season finales and were shutout in both matches.

Orange County SC (6-6-3)

Who to know

Sean “Ugo” Okoli: He leads the club with seven goals and scored OC’s lone goal in the latest loss to Los Dos.

Darwin Jones: While he only has one goal and one assist, it’s easy to see why Jones is a difference-maker when you watch Orange County play. He has explosive pace and skill on the ball and spreads out the opposing defense.

Aodhan Quinn: The veteran midfielder is one of the most valuable players in this league every season. He leads OC in passes by more than 100, also has a club-high in interceptions, and his work rate is always high.

What to know

  • Will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
  • Tied for 31st in goals scored
  • 6th in the league clean sheets
