2018 USL Preseason Rankings

The start of the 2018 USL season is only a few weeks away, so the hosts of The USL Show got together and created their first ever preseason ranking in an attempt to predict how this year will shake out.

In the East, everyone predicted that reigning champions, Louisville, would land in one of the top two spots, along with Tampa Bay.  From there the rest of their top 5 looks like this:

Eastern Conference Top 5

1. Tampa Bay
2. Louisville
3. Cincinnati
4. Nashville
5. North Carolina

Things weren’t as clear cut at the bottom of the table, where the only thing everyone could agree on is that Toronto will end the season in last place for the second season in a row:

In the west it’s expected to be a tight race between Real Monarchs and Phoenix, who are both pushing hard to be powerhouses in the league this season.

Western Conference Top 5

1. Phoenix
2. Real Monarchs
3. San Antonio
4. St. Louis
5. Swope Park

The general consensus is that Los Dos, Portland, and Seattle will be battling for the bottom spot, unless Zlatan plays a few games for Galaxy 2, in which case they’ll win the league.

Western Conference Bottom 5

Overall USL Top 10

In addition to the conference rankings above,  the hosts were asked to compile their top 10 teams across the entire league.  Once the numbers were crunched, the combined predictions see the Rowdies bringing home the only hardware that counts, while the rest of the top 10 round out into an almost 50-50 split of Eastern and Western teams.

1. Tampa Bay
2. Louisville
3. Phoenix
4. Real Monarchs
5. San Antonio
6. Cincinnati
7. Nashville
8. St. Louis
9. North Carolina
10. Pittsburgh
